Here's something that amused me recently.
Snooker player, Ali Carter, beat Peter Ebdon on Wednesday. For the first time ever, Carter is through to the semi-finals of the World Championships.
The commentator (Clive Everton, I think, but don't quote me on that) said, "It doesn't get better than that."
But it quite clearly does: it gets much better if a player gets into the final, doesn't it? So, was this a journalistic gaffe or a mere error of logic? Or just another example of sports commentators getting carried away with themselves?

Possibly he's predicting that Carter will not in fact get into the final?
On second thought, no. He's just not paying attention. Sports guys have to talk all the time and they really don't seem to think much about it...
The champions league final the other night had some prime examples of commentators talking rubbish, for instance:
"All they needed was one more goal" - Really thanks for that gem of knowledge no one outside of the football world could have possibly worked that out.
"Sports guys have to talk all the time "
This is so true; I think the ridger, fcd has touched on something.
It's sort of why I don't get worked up about GWBush and his Bush-isms.
When you have to talk talk talk and you don't often have TIME to think, and you CAN'T edit, we'll all sound stupid.
But it's still funny.
(maybe he meant, it doesn't get MUCH better than that?)
