Yes, my destination is now Charing Cross in Glasgow – slightly out of the way (but arguably my fault). It also appears that I have to swim there. At least I get a stopover in Belgium!
To be fair, Google Maps did provide me with the following warning:
Walking directions are in beta.
Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.
How true – there aren't many sidewalks or pedestrian paths in the North Sea...

For a while, you couldn't get INTO Norway from Britain except via France, only out of it... as though the ferries only ran one way.
Just wondering ... surely that can't be the most efficient way to get there by car, either?
Try getting directions for something like Los Angeles, to Sydney or Melbourne in Australia (actually, London to Melbourne might be a giggle, too!).
From London, Google Maps wouldn't give me walking directions to anywhere further away than Burgas in Bulgaria. That's still 3,084 miles (estimated time: 16 days, 4 hours). Quite a hike - even if most of it is by sea...
