Dangling modifier: 'liveried with the warning'

A nice dangling modifier from some recent raw copy:

In addition, the police continue to move their campaign trailer across the county, which is liveried with the warning: “Truckers beware, this is a lorry load theft hotspot.”

So the whole county is liveried... impressive.

Dangling modifiers and BK's meat scent

Spotted a couple of good dangling modifiers in BBC News stories today.

The Road to Bethlehem says of Jenin: "Known in the Bible as En-Gannim, a large refugee camp lies adjacent to the town."

Wow, that is one old refugee camp.

And in Burger chain markets meat scent, we are told: "Called Flame, the company says the spray is 'the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat'."

The company in question is Burger King – it's the scent that is called Flame. But what a great story...

Dangling modifier: 'lorry drivers in Suffolk'

It must be the season for dangling modifiers (after yesterday's example). Again from copy:

Despite being the location of the largest deep sea container terminal in the UK, with major plans to expand its operations over the next few years, lorry drivers in Suffolk are no better off than in much of the rest of the UK.

So lorry drivers in Suffolk are the location of the UK's largest deep sea container terminal. If they move, does it move with them? Or have they been crushed?

Dangling modifier: 'powder coat finish'

Here's a blatant dangling modifier I came across in copy recently:

Available in a powder coat finish, the company claims to be the world’s largest supplier of truck roll top covers.

So the company is available in a powder coat finish? How does that work?
